Weekly participation grading rubric
Mon. 3/23: (55 min) NCBI gene database – comparing hemoglobin genes between human and chimpanzee. We will find the introns and exons of a gene and find mutations that result in evolutionary differences.
Tues. 3/24: (30/40min) Examine the data from yesterday’s lab and discuss. HW: lab due Thursday
Wed. 3/25: (85 min) Discuss chromosomal vs. gene mutations (from section 13.3 in book). Start the Gene Mutations worksheet. HW: test over chapter 13 next Wednesday. finish reflection from NCBI lab to be collected tomorrow.
Thurs. 3/26: (40 min) continue with the Gene Mutations Worksheet Discuss chromosome mutations – do a puzzle. HW: finish the worksheet if you didn’t in class.
Fri. 3/27: (40/30 min) Watch video clip of The Birth and Death of Genes – the story of how the icefish is able to survive without red blood cells. HW: finish reading the chapter. Test next Wed.
