Week of 9/9/19:

Mon. 9/9 (day 1 altered, 40 min): WU- pH   Organic Molecules. Monomer vs. Polymer legos. Organic Molecule foldable, organic molecule lab testing foldable. Paper triglyceride and phospholipids. Observe the lipid lab test. HW:  Vocabulary for 2.1 and 2.2 due tomorrow. Quiz tomorrow over Water and pH.

Tues 9/10 (day 2 altered, 55 min): WU – Macromolecules Quiz – Water, Solutions, pH. Carbohydrates.  HW: remainder of the vocabulary due Monday.

Wed. 9/11 (day 3 altered, 35 min): WU – Lipids and Carbohydrates Proteins and Denaturing HW: see last night

Thurs 9/12 (day 4 altered, 85 min):  WU -Proteins Organic Breakfast Lab HW: Vocabulary due Monday. Test over 2.1-2.7  Wednesday next week.

Fri. 9/13 (day 5 altered, 25 min):  WU -Lab Tests Nucleic Acids  HW: Vocab due Monday. Test over unit 2 Wednesday – start studying and doing study guide over the weekend.

Week of 9/2/19:

Tues 9/3 (day 2, 60 min): WU – Atoms. Discuss covalent and hydrogen bonds using the magnetic water models. Set up your BILL for chapter 2.  HW: have all papers glued into BILL for chapter 2 (cover page with tab divider, table of contents, chapter overview, vocabulary, notes from today). I will collect BILLS for grading chapter 1 tomorrow.

Wed. 9/4 (day 3, 40 min): WU – Bonds Properties of Water Foldable. Discuss solutions.  HW: begin reading book sections 2.1 Water and 2.2 Acids and Bases

Thurs 9/5 (day 4, 100 min):  WU -Properties of water x2  Water Lab  HW: finish reading 2.1 and 2.2 of textbook. Quiz next week over water and pH. 

Fri. 9/6 (day 5, 30 min):  WU -pH. Discuss taking pH. Time to finish Water Lab.  HW: Quiz Tuesday over water and pH (see study guide on chapter overview #1-4 and practice worksheets under Review tab above for help). Vocab for sections 2.1 and 2.2 due Tuesday.

Week of 8/26/19:

Mon 8/26 (day 2, 60 min): WU – Interpreting the Data; Finish Graphing Skills from Friday, make a graph of your Yeast Lab data.  HW: Quiz  over Scientific Method and Graphing is Wednesday (sections 1.5-1.9 of your textbook). Test over chapter 1 is Friday.

Tues. 8/27 (day 3, 40 min): WU – Line Graphs . How to do a t-test.  HW: see last night

Wed. 8/28 (day 4, 100 min):  WU –Scatterplots; Quiz.  Time to work on your Yeast Lab. When finished, you can work on the chapter study guide found in the dark yellow chapter overview of your BILL.  PRT will be used for anyone who wants study help for the test Friday. HW: Test Friday.

Thurs. 8/29 (day 5, 30 min):  WU -T Test. Play Vocabulary Jenga.   HW: Finish your study guide for tomorrow.  Test tomorrow.

Fri. 8/30 (day 1 altered, 35 min): no WU Test. When finished, complete the chapter reflection. HW:  Complete the chapter reflection. BILLS will be collected on Tuesday for grading.

Week of 8/19/19:

Mon 8/19 (day 2, 60 min): WU – Kingdoms. Scientific Method Card Sort  HW: meet with me in my office during one of your break periods by today at 3:30!  Finish Taxonomy Wheel for Wednesday if you did not already do it.  Vocabulary words due Thursday.  Quiz Thursday over Characteristics of Life and Taxonomy

Tues. 8/20 (day 3, 40 min): WU – Scientific Method. MythBusters “Are Elephants Afraid of Mice?”; Discuss variables and null hypothesis; Add practice worksheet to BILL and answer the questions.Work on the pre-lab questions for the Yeast Lab and go through the experimental setup.  HW: see last night

Wed. 8/21 (day 4, 100 min): WU Interpreting Data; Yeast Lab – you will need 4 pages in your BILL. Complete as far as the group and class data tables. We will discuss what makes a good data table. HW: Vocabulary due tomorrow. Quiz tomorrow over Characteristics of Life and Taxonomy (there are review sheets under the “Review” tab above). I will be collecting BILLS tomorrow to grade the Warm Ups completed so far and your vocabulary. Remember that you can go back to any of the warm ups to make sure you have the right answers – I encourage you to look them up!

Thurs. 8/22 (day 5, 30 min): no WU Quiz.  Start discussing Graphing Skills. Add the card sort about “which graph is most appropriate for the data given” to BILL.  HW: Quiz next Wednesday over Scientific Method and Graphing. Your CK12 book has great practice questions with answers on graphing.

Fri. 8/23 (day 1, 40 min): no WU Continue discussing graphing skills. Make 3 graphs with data given. We will finish them in class Monday. HW:  Quiz Wednesday. Test over chapter 1 next Friday

Week of 8/12/19

Mon 8/12 (day 2, 60 min): Seating, sign up, classroom policies, class website, CK12 textbook, set up interactive notebooks (BILL).  Instructions for setting up your BILL HW: meet with me in my office during one of your break periods by next Monday(about 2 minutes)

Tues. 8/13 (day 3, 40 min): WU – Characteristics of Life; Discuss characteristics of life.  HW: see last night

Wed. 8/14 (day 4, 100 min): WU Asexual Hydra; Finish discussing characteristics of life; Complete the Is It Alive? Lab  HW: Read the sections 1.1-1.3 and supplement your class notes if needed. Lab due Friday.  Meet with me in my office during your break period by Monday.

Thurs. 8/15 (day 5, 30 min): WU Evolution and Water Bears; Discuss Classification (slides 1-4 of Taxonomy powerpoint). Add Triangle worksheet of classification scheme to BILL.  HW: see last night

Fri. 8/16 (day 1, 40 min): no WU today; Continue our discussion of classification. Add the Kingdom Wheel to your BILL. HW:  see Wednesday. Quiz over Characteristics of Life and Taxonomy next Thursday.  Enjoy your weekend!

Welcome Class of 2023!

Week of 8/5/19:

Wed. 8/7: Freshman Orientation!

Thurs. 8/8 (day 1, 40 min): Freshwater Invertebrates Lab. Let’s look at pond water under microscopes to see what is really in there. Think about how we know what is alive and what is not.  HW: Get supplies by Monday. You will need a composition notebook and a glue stick. I have glue sticks in the lab, but it will be much faster and easier for you if you have your own. Decorate the cover of your notebook.  Complete the “Getting to Know You” worksheet by Monday.

Fri. 8/9 (day 1, 40 min): Continue with yesterday’s lab  HW:  see last night

Remember that Monday is a Day 2 – that means we will meet FIRST, at 8:15am.

Mon. 5/20 (30 min)  –  Q & A about review sheet.  Review sheet should be totally completed by tomorrow!

Tues. 5/21 (40 min):  Q&A first,  then play a Kahoot game for review

Exam:  Wednesday 5/22 from 2:00-3:30pm in room 118.

Extended time will be in room 102/104 from 1:30-3:45pm. If you have any questions, the proctor at the front of the room can come to room 118 to get me.

Final Exam Review Sheet

Mon. 5/13 (30 min)  –  Discuss Succession and the Nitrogen cycle.HW:  Ecology unit vocab due Thursday. Continue working on your exam review sheet and notecard.

Tues. 5/14 (40 min):  Continue our discussion from yesterday. Warm Up: pg 6 Succession.  HW: see last night

Wed 5/15 (60 min)   Discuss population growth curves. Human Population growth video clipWarm Up: Population graphs. Begin to discuss Climate change.    HW: vocab due tomorrow

Thurs. 5/16 (40 min): Climate change graph matching activity. Discuss how to do Climate change Ice Core graphing tomorrow.  HW:  Bring charged computers with Microsoft Excel for class tomorrow. Work on exam review sheet and notecard. Warm ups collected tomorrow.

Fri. 5/17 (100 min): Warm up: Climate Change  Invasive Species – Cane Toad video.   I will collect warm ups today! PRT today can be used to get help with your exam review sheet – I will be available for help or to answer any questions. HW: study for exams – complete your review sheet and  fill out your notecard

Coming up: Exam Review Monday and Tuesday – our exam is on Wednesday 2:00-3:30. Extended time students are in the LGI from 1:30-3:45.

Final Exam Review Sheet

Mon. 5/6 (30 min) Warm Up: Primate Evolution. Go over last quiz. Time in class to work on Study guide, Skull lab, and/or Radiometric lab. Add reflection page and Chapter 3-6 BILL pages to be ready to start the next chapter tomorrow.  HW:  Test Chpt 16-19 tomorrow.

Tues. 5/7 (40 min):  Test Evolution unit chpts 16-19.  Begin Ecology chapter near the end of the period by doing a Trophic Level Card Sort activity. Turn in BILLs for grading.  HW: none

Wed 5/8 (60 min) Warm Up: Food Chains and Food Webs. Discuss Ecological Pyramids and do the warm up on pg 3 together.   HW: vocabulary due Thursday next week.

Thurs. 5/9 (altered 35 min): Warm Up: Keystone Species – How Wolves Change Rivers. Discuss Biological magnification and symbiosis  HW:  see last night

Fri. 5/10 (100 min): Warm up: symbiosis.  Quadrat Lab – go outside  HW: vocab due Thursday. Start studying for exams – complete your review sheet and start to fill out your notecard

Coming up: finish ecology unit – succession, Nitrogen cycle, climate change, populations, invasive species (it’s a big week!)

Tues. 4/30 (40 min)Warm Up: Evolutionary Relationships. Work on Timeline Lab HW: Test next Tuesday. 

Wed 5/1 (60 min) Warm Up: Relative Dating. Finish Timeline Lab and begin Radiometric Dating Lab.   HW: Test over evolution next Tuesday.

Thurs. 5/2 (altered 35 min):    Time to finish yesterday’s lab  HW:  see last night

Fri. 5/3 (100 min): Warm up: Radiometric Dating.  Begin Skull Lab  HW: Test over evolution next Tuesday. Monday will be used to study and complete any labs from this week you did not finish in class. BILLS will be collected on Tuesday.
